Week of Jan 29th – Feb 2nd

The peanut ball was to support W and AC’s body in the prone (i.e., on the tummy) to complete fine motor activities. We used the rapper snapper for distal and proximal strength (hand and shoulder strength). Smaller tweezers were also used to pick up and release objects into a target to promote fine motor development and visual-motor skills.

Students went on a scavenger hunt to scan the classroom to look for letters to build the -at spelling words we are focusing on this week. Some bean bag letters were purposefully  more difficult to find in order to focus on perceptual skills and scanning of the environment. Once the students found the letter they then built the word with letter cards and spelled it on the board. A multi-sensory approach to spelling has been helpful to reinforce sounding out each letter and identifying which letter is needed for the word. This activity was a hit with the kiddos, so we did it a few times this week!

We did a “show and tell” activity on Wednesday. Students had to think about school (ideation), and then draw a picture about that idea. We then shared our pictures with the class. W drew a picture of himself, his classmate and teachers at the library checking out books. AC drew each person including our therapy dog, Cullen! This was such a fun activity and worked on motor planning (ideation and execution) and visual motor skills to complete the task.
