Week of Dec 11th – Dec 21st

W and AC read aloud The Gingerbread Man while working on reading skills, including sounding out CVC words and tracking appropriately. We used a pipe cleaner and various bead colors to represent the different characters to help sequence and re-tell the story.

We used a thumb tack to complete a Christmas worksheet to target pincer grasp, motor control and accuracy, and grip strength. We used a vertical surface to address shoulder stability (known as proximal stability). It is important to have a strong base of support to utilize smaller muscles of the wrist and hand for fine motor activities. We target proximal stability in OT to improve activities such as self-care tasks, cutting, and handwriting.

W celebrated his 8th birthday this month! AC’s sister was able to attend the birthday festivities too. We saw a Christmas puppet show at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center where the kids learned about the different types of puppets after the show.  Santa also made an appearance at the show! The kids were super excited about seeing Santa and discussing their Christmas wish lists with him.

We love arts and crafts activities at CPS! We made Christmas ornaments this week to give as gifts. They turned out so beautiful!

This holiday season we have been focusing on the spirit of giving (rather than receiving). We discussed how others feel when we give gifts, especially to those in need. We participated in Toys for Tots this Christmas. We took a trip to the store to choose a gift that a little boy and girl might like to receive on Christmas morning; a baby doll, a trailer with tractors, and a Star Wars legos set. Our local grocery store had a donation box where we dropped off the gifts. It has been a blessed holiday season for CPS!
