Week of Mar 12th – Mar 16th

Top o’ the mornin’ to ya! We learned about St. Patrick’s Day this week. We made an Irish flag using sequins to promote fine motor development. We also used theraputty to make “gold coins”, focusing on bilateral coordination to roll the “coins” and making the correct number of coins for each pot of gold. Then we turned ourselves into leprechauns. Students followed directions to sequence the steps of the craft and to copy from the model provided (fine motor skills, visual-motor/perceptual development).

We also explored and identified coins introduced by Ms. Shelby. We used more resistive theraputty to create imprints of a penny, nickel, dime and a quarter to work on finger isolation and strength.

Identifying and counting money is a critical functional skill for all students to learn. This week we focused on identifying the penny, nickel, dime and quarter. Monday through Thursday, AC and W were introduced to one coin per a day. They explored each of the coins and worked on activities to help them learn the names of each one. Through sorting and identifying the correct coin, AC and W are working hard to learn all about money.  Learning money is fun!

Weekly sight words were written on the board for AC and W to read. Ms. Shelby called out a word for them to find and they used an eraser to erase the word from the board.
