We have been learning about spring this week. Students identified things we see in the season of spring. We wrote a list of these items and then used typing skills to type out the list. We navigated Google to find pictures to create a spring collage. This activity targeted written expression through handwriting and typing, computer use, perceptual and fine motor skills.
Pop beads were used to make caterpillars. This activity promotes small, isolated finger movements, pincer grasp, and bilateral coordination.
In OT, we carryover many skills targeted in academics with Ms. Shelby. Ms. Shelby works on sentence structure and completing sentences. We completed a worksheet to put the sentence in the correct order, wrote the sentence and then drew a spring picture. Spring is in the air at CPS!
Thinking of the warmer weather and the pretty flowers that bloom, we made a spelling flower! AC and W wrote their spelling words on each petal of the flower, then they put the flower together. Kelly went step-by-step with them on how to build their flower (all of the pieces were cut out for them). When the flowers were finished, we hung them up on our bulletin board!
Math- Students worked on coin identification while navigating stepping stones. We engaged in imaginary play and walked on the stones through the river to drop off the coins to Ms. Shelby. Large motor movements that require balance and motor planning were challenged while also completing concepts targeted in math.
AC and W had to sort the coins into the correct cup. The cups were labeled at the beginning of the week with the picture of the coin, the name of each coin, and the value. By the end of the week the picture was gone and they had to sort them by name and value.
We took a field trip to the mall to go on a letter scavenger hunt. We searched for letters on signs and identified all letters of the alphabet. We also used the purchase of a token to ride the carousel to teach addition and monetary denomination.
