Week of Nov 27th – Dec 1st

During morning meeting, we worked on parts of a sentence, such as the beginning and ending of a sentence, words, upper and lower case letters, punctuation and capitalization. We have been using a multi-sensory approach to reinforce these concepts.

In OT we painted a fluffy polar bear. This activity targeted following directions, spatial concepts and fine motor skills. We LOVED mixing shaving cream and glue to make fluffy paint! They turned out so cute!

In this activity, the students worked in half-kneeling/tall-kneeling position to challenge their core and postural stability. The coloring page was placed on a vertical surface to promote shoulder stability and strength, and students colored by number to complete the task (scanning, visual-motor, and fine motor skills).

We are promoting independent work skills throughout the day. In this activity, AC and W had to build their spelling words using snap letters. After they built each word they showed a teacher and earned a point for every word they spelled correctly.

Hand skills continue to be addressed in therapy for both students. This video is an example of tool use, fine motor skills, bilateral coordination, and grading movements for successful completion of the task.

Friday was PJ & Christmas movie day! The children voted to watch “I Want a Dog For Christmas Charlie Brown” after a “fun lunch” of pizza.  In other exciting news an Elf arrived from the North Pole on Friday! Miss Kelly read W & AC the Elf on the Shelf story and they named their elf “Joy”. We are hopeful she will help keep them on their best behavior especially since she leaves them a small treat in their mini stocking if they had a great day the day before. Incentives are good motivation!

This week Cornerstone Preparatory School for Therapeutic Education staff attended a lecture given by Dr. Temple Grandin at the Cobb Energy Center.  I was surprised by how similar some of her mannerisms were to W and also how funny she is! She was very entertaining but also gave us a lot of great information which we hope to incorporate into the classroom.
